About DownCheck

Know if it's down before you panic

DownCheck tells you whether a website or service is down for everyone globally, or just for you — using real network probes, not user complaints. No crowd-sourcing. No guessing. Just honest data.

Active probing — not crowd-sourcing

Most "is it down?" tools work by counting user complaints. When enough people click "I have a problem", the tool declares an incident. This sounds useful — but it means you're reading a social signal, not a technical measurement. Reports lag reality by 15–30 minutes. They spike for app updates, viral news, and user confusion.

DownCheck doesn't count complaints. When you check a service, we immediately send real network requests from multiple independent vantage points and report what we actually observe on the network.

User-report tools

  • Count user complaint clicks
  • Compare to a historical baseline
  • 15–30 min lag from outage to detection
  • False spikes from app updates & news
  • No way to distinguish local vs. global
  • Confidence? None shown.

DownCheck

  • Sends live HTTP requests to the server
  • Checks from 3 independent networks
  • Results in under 15 seconds
  • Data-driven — not sentiment-driven
  • Separates global outage from DNS failure
  • Confidence score on every result

Three probes. Three networks. One verdict.

Every check runs three independent probes simultaneously — from completely different infrastructure, using different protocols. If all three agree, we're highly confident. If they disagree, we tell you that too.

1

Direct HTTP Probe

A real HTTP GET request from our server. We measure the response code, SSL certificate, and response time.

Network: Railway / AWS
Timeout: 10 seconds
Validates: SSL + headers
2

Cloudflare Edge Probe

A second request routed through Cloudflare's global anycast network (AS13335) — a completely different autonomous system.

Network: Cloudflare AS13335
Reports: data center (colo)
Independent of Probe 1
3

DNS Health Check

Parallel DNS queries to 4 independent resolvers. DNS failure is often the first sign of a serious outage.

Honest results. No black box.

We believe you deserve to know exactly how a status check works — not just a coloured dot with no explanation. Every result on DownCheck comes with a confidence score, a breakdown by probe, and an honest explanation of what we can and can't detect.

📡

Real probes only

Every result is from a live network request made at the time you asked. We never serve cached or stale data as "current status."

🎯

No fake confidence

We cap confidence at 97%, not 100%. No tool checking from a fixed set of locations can be absolutely certain. We say so.

🔍

Full transparency

We publish our full methodology — probe types, thresholds, verdict logic, and what we can't detect.

🔒

Privacy first

No account required. No tracking cookies. No user profiling. We collect only what's needed for the check to work.

🌍

Independent

DownCheck is not affiliated with any of the 2,675 services it monitors. Our results are not influenced by commercial relationships.

Always live

56 top services are automatically checked every 5 minutes, around the clock. You see real data the moment you land on a page.
